Brunello di Montalcino is produced exclusively from grapes of the variety Sangiovese from Montalcino municipal area. Brunello di Montalcino is a wine produced in the province of Siena and precisely, as can be seen from the name, in the municipality of Montalcino; in 1960 this wine was awarded the DOC (Denomination of Controlled Origin) and, first of its kind in Italy, from 1980 Brunello di Montalcino obtained the DOCG (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin).
